Our Story

One ordinary day at work, I realized I wanted to do something more meaningful- something that truly would make a difference for people like my own. I always believed that families in the death care industry are underserved- often having to pay premium prices for bare minimum services.

When I was 14 years old, my uncle passed away tragically. Not having time to even process what happened, I learned quickly about the stress and responsibility following a loved one’s death. This experience created who I am today and is the reason I would like to make a difference for those grieving. From sunup to sundown I carried responsibilities I knew my family needed me to shoulder. From the police station, to my grieving mother, from being the first at the scene, to his celebration of life. I no longer was just a girl, I made the decision of being an adult.

I felt shattered when I saw my uncle's obituary- it didn't capture half of who he was, what he had accomplished, and how much he was loved. My uncle had been there since I was born- and my name wasn’t even included amongst others. Just a placeholder: “many nieces and nephews”. This was the spark to the flame for me and I unapologetically contest the way that obituaries are written today.

I began to have conversations with other people about how we and our loved ones deserve better. What I found so frequently was this shared experience of shortcoming and despair when it comes to the careless obituaries that are too often presented. As the founder of Elizabeth Obituaries, we know you deserve better- and we create timelessly composed words designed to honor the legacy and character of those before us. I have always been an avid writer, impressing many with my ability to bring words to life- and before that simple realization at work, I never thought about obituary writing as a career. It all fell into place and I built Elizabeth Obituaries because obituary writing isn’t just words, it deserves to be one-of-a-kind and handcrafted.
